Continuing Professional Development

The University College of Teacher Education Styria offers educators both for Initial Teacher Education and for Continuing Professional Development courses in language and cultural education in the areas of German as a second language, mother tongue teaching, language-sensitive teaching and plurilingual didactics.

HLG „International Teacher Competences”
HLG „International Teacher Competences”
As an important measure in the internationalisation of curricula, the “International Teacher Competences" university course was developed in cooperation with ten university colleges of the international “VoiceS Network". The university course (DE/EN), which has been run bilingually since 2015/16, promotes the acquisition of international and culturally reflexive competences.

HLG „Empowering Education in a European Context“
The university course “Empowering Education in a European Context” is a joint programme between the University College of Teacher Education Styria and partner universities in Belgium, Spain and Denmark. It invites both international and Austrian students to study in Graz for one semester. It comprises 30 EC and each module is taught by teachers from one of the partner countries. One of these modules is a three-week teaching practice in one of the countries. Students acquire the skills to study and work as teachers in an international context.

Due to the great demand in the field of German as a Second Language (Deutsch als Zweitsprache: DaZ), the amount of university courses was more than doubled. At the request of the Directorate of Education Styria, university courses were also offered in the Upper Styria educational region.

HLG “Language-sensitive Teaching”
The nationwide university course of studies in cooperation with the University of Education Upper Austria and the ÖSZ (Österreichisches-Sprachen-Kompetenz-Zentrum – Austrian centre of language competence) is a qualification programme for teachers at university colleges (in initial teacher education and continuous professional development) and schools who would like to work as multipliers on the subject of language-sensitive teaching.

The nationwide university course of studies is a qualification programme for teachers at University Colleges who would like to work on the subject of German as a second language in initial teacher education and continuous professional development with the core themes of methodology/didactics.
