Centre for Pedagogical-Practical Studies
The team of the Centre for Pedagogical-Practical Studies is responsible for the pedagogical-practical studies of Secondary Teacher Education in Styria within the cooperation of the Teacher Education Network South-East. It conceives, organises and evaluates the practical training in Initial Teacher Education, the Continuing Professional Development in career entry and the Continuing Education for mentors of the University College of Teacher Education Styria, the University of Graz, the University of Music and Performing Arts and the University of Technology Graz with the Board of Education of Styria and a network of training schools.
The focus is on the acquisition of knowledge in educational science, subject science and subject-specific didactics for the development of teaching skills. Students and career starters as well as mentors are supported and counselled in the examination of their own teaching and school activities through the approach of practical research. The team of the Centre conducts research on practice-oriented teacher education and develops it further based on evidence. The Centre for Applied Pedagogical Studies is a centre located at the Institute for Education Practice and Practitioner Research of the University College of Teacher Education Styria in cooperation with the University of Graz.
Core tasks of the Centre are the conception, coordination, implementation and evaluation of
- pedagogical-practical studies in the Bachelor and Masters programmes of Secondary Intital Teacher Education at the Graz location of the Teacher Education Network South-East
- qualification and certification of mentors at the training schools
- activities of practicioner research in close cooperation with the entire Initial Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development for university college teachers, students and mentors in the pedagogical-practical studies
In order to realise the Pedagogical-Practical Studies for the Bachelor and Master Programms in Initial teacher Education for Secondary Schools the University College of Teacher Education Styria cooperates with the integrated training schools at the campus and around 150 secondary training schools in Styria. In these schools about 1000 mentors are taking responsibilitiy for introducing the students into the profession as teachers.
