Institute for Early Childhood and Primary School Education


The team of the Institute for Early Childhood and Primary School Education conceives, organizes and evaluates the Initial Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development for Early Childhood and Primary School teachers. It accompanies and counsels educational institutions of the Early Childhood and Primary School level as well as thematically corresponding educational networks and educational regions in quality development for teaching, supervision and organisation.

The team of the Institute conducts research in Early Childhood and Primary School Education and cooperates regionally, nationally and internationally. Its research findings and products are disseminated in the teaching and counselling of the professional community as well as in scientific publications and at congresses in the scientific community. The Research Centre for Inclusive Education (FzIB - Forschungszentrum für Inklusive Bildung) is assigned to the Institute and it runs the study workshops for mathematics didactics, German didactics and general science and social studies didactics.

Core tasks of the Institute are the conception, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the

  • academic teaching in the Bachelor Programme in Early Childhood Education, in the Bachelor and Master Programmes for Primary Initial Teacher Education and in the Master Programmes for Primary Initial Teacher Education in Inclusive Education 
  • academic teaching in the specializations in the Primary Teacher Initial Education Bachelor Programme
  • academic teaching in the Continuing Professional Development Programme for Primary, Inclusive and Early Childhood educators
  • academic teaching in the university courses of the Continuing Professional Education Programme 
  • Research Centre for Inclusive Education (FzIB)
  • Pracitcal Study Workshops for mathematics didactics, German didactics and Sciences didactics
  • consultation and support for teaching development in Primary Education schools and quality development in Early Childhood Education institutions
  • research and development projects in Primary School and Early Childhood Education
  • dissemination of research findings and products
