Institute for Diversity Studies and International Relations

 

The team of the Institute for Diversity Studies and International Relations conceives, organizes and evaluates the teaching of Initial Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development for the diversity fields of interculturality, migration and plurilingualism for educators of all school types and all ages. It accompanies and counsels schools, other educational institutions and thematically corresponding educational networks and educational regions in quality development in diversity-oriented questions of teaching, school and personal development.

The team of the Institute accompanies, organises and evaluates educational mobility of students and university college staff and counsels on participation and documentation in international projects. It carries out subject-specific research and development, cooperates regionally, nationally and internationally and manages the internationalisation of the University College of Teacher Education Styria. It disseminates its research findings and products in the teaching and counselling of the professional community as well as in scientific publications and at congresses in the scientific community. The Institute is responsible for the national focus "Centre for Linguistic Education in the Context of Migration and Multilingualism" (BIMM) and the Regional Centre for the Teaching of Languages and Cultures. The Institute works in all its tasks throughout the entire University College of Teacher Education Styria.

Core tasks of the Institute are the conception, coordination, implementation and evaluation of

  • Initial Teacher Education in the fields of interculturality, migration and plurilingualism of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes for Primary Teacher Education, Secondary Teacher Education as well as Secondary Vocational Teacher Education
  • Continuing Professional Development  in the subject-specific fields of diversity for Primary Teacher Education, Secondary Teacher Education and Secondary Vocational Teacher Education
  • Continuing Professional Development in subject-specific university courses of studies
  • the internal Continuous Professional Development for the personal development of the University College of Teacher Education Styria in the subject-specific field
  • international educational cooperation
  • the internationalisation of study programmes
  • the mobility of students, lecturers and administrative staff
  • research and development projects in the fields of interculturality, migration and plurilingualism
  • the National Centre of Competence (NCoC) “Education in the context of migration and plurilingualism”
  • the Regional Centre for the Teaching of Languages and Cultures
  • the dissemination of research findings and products
