The University College of Teacher Education Styria (PHSt) offers support and information not only for Ukrainian refugees who have arrived in our country, but also for Austrian teachers who welcome Ukrainian children and young people in their schools and integrate them into their classes. Lecturers and students of PHSt contribute to this. All activities and services are coordinated by the Institute for Diversity Studies and International Relations with its head ILin Prof.ⁱⁿ Mag.^a Susanne Linhofer. Actively supported by the Centre for Language Education in the Context of Migration and Multilingualism (BIMM) under the direction of ZLⁱⁿ Prof.ⁱⁿ Mag.^a Dagmar Gilly, it offers information, advice, teaching materials and further training.

Bundesweite Webinarreihe „Schüler*innen mit Fluchtbiografie begleiten und Deutsch als Zweitsprache-Unterricht gestalten“

Im SJ 22/23 bietet das BIMM eine bundesweite Webinarreihe für Pädagog*innen an, die Kinder und Jugendliche mit Fluchterfahrung an österreichischen Schulen begleiten.

Padlet mit Informationen, Fortbildungen und Unterrichtsmaterialien

Um die Anfragen von Lehrpersonen an Schulen mit geflüchteten ukrainischen Kindern und Jugendlichen zu beantworten, bietet das Institut für Diversität und Internationales in Zusammenarbeit mit dem BIMM ein Padlet. Diese Plattform wird laufend mit entsprechenden Informationen, Unterrichtsmaterialien und Terminen für Fortbildungen zur thematischen sprachlichen Bildung im Kontext von Migration und Mehrsprachigkeit aktualisiert. Tuition fee exemption for Ukrainian students in Austria

In order to provide Ukrainian students with fast and unbureaucratic help, the BMBWF has amended the Tuition Fee Ordinance. As a result, these students are exempt from having to pay tuition fees for the entire summer semester 2022. If necessary, this regulation can be extended.

Information about the European research area for researchers from Ukraine

The European Commission has established the “European Research Area for Ukraine” (ERA4Ukraine) website to provide a central point of contact for information and support services for researchers in Ukraine and researchers that have fled Ukraine.

The portal combines initiatives on an EU level, sorted by countries, and initiatives by NGOs. The aim is to assist researchers with finding accommodation and employment and facilitate the recognition of their university degrees.

PHSt shocked by Russia's attack

February 28, 2022 – The University College of Teacher Education Styria (PHSt) is deeply shocked by Russia's attack on Ukraine and the massive violation of international law. Our sympathy and solidarity go to the entire population and the universities and colleges in Ukraine. We feel especially connected in these hours with our two partner universities in Ukraine, Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University and Kirovohrad Volodymyr Vynnychenko State Pedagogical University. We support the Ukrainian students who are currently studying at PHSt. Our thoughts are with their families and friends in their home country.
